Barnet 157 Welwyn GC 118

With six overs left, Welwyn Garden City needed 40 runs to win with five wickets in hand. By no means an impossible task.

Six overs later, the match was all over. But in one of the most dramatic of collapses, Welwyn had lost all of their remaining wickets without adding a single run.

Excellent fast bowling by Leon Roberts (5-28) was the key to Barnet's success. His accuracy and aggression caused all batsmen difficulties, despite the slow wicket. His last three overs saw him take three wickets without conceding a run, his last two victims being beaten for pace and clean bowled.

Earlier, Barnet had struggled to 157 in 50 overs. The loss of three early wickets inevitably placed additional pressure on the middle order batsmen.

N Kamath (68) and A Patel (41) dug in, however, and added 84 invaluable runs in a tense 27 overs, taking the score from 30-3 to 114-4 in the process.

Roberts took an early wicket, adding to the pressure on Welwyn, and such was the accuracy of the opening attack that they managed only 26 off 22 overs. Hassan also bowled tightly, his 18 overs yielding only 29 runs.

Then Roberts entered the attack for the final dramatic throw of the dice.
