Hopkins-Silvester wedding
A COUPLE who first met and got engaged when they were teenagers but became separated when the bride moved to Portsmouth in 1981, Paul William Hopkins and Sharon Silvester, were married at the Turtle Bay Beach Club in Watamu, Kenya.

The bridegroom, an auto electrician, is the son of Mr Peter Hopkins and the late Mrs Margaret Hopkins, of Home Mead, Newport.

The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Reginald George Arthur Lupton, of Quay Street, Newport.

The bride wore an ocean blue, full-length satin dress with a ruched bodice and lace-up back, trimmed with silver embroidery.

She wore a head-dress of fresh, frangipani flowers and carried an exotic bouquet of white lillies, white and cream roses and carnations that were entwined with palm leaves and decorated with crystals.

She was given away by close friend Mrs Anita Saunders.

The deputy registrar general for the area, T. A. O. Ogweno, officiated.

The couple’s honeymoon was spent in Kenya on safari in East and West Tsavo and scuba diving in the national marine park.
