TWO young men died and a third teenager was injured after the car in which they were travelling careered off the M11.

The three men, from Cambridgeshire, who have not yet been identified by police, were in a Rover 75 which was being driven northbound, between junction seven (Harlow) and eight (Stansted), at 1am on Sunday, when the accident occurred.

Police investigating the incident said the car went off the carriageway and hit trees and a boundary fence before bursting into flames. They say no other vehicles were involved. Two of the men were trapped in the car and died at the scene, but the other managed to escape from the wreckage and was taken to Harlow's Princess Alexandra Hospital suffering from serious leg injuries.

Yesterday morning (Tuesday), before the Citizen went to press, an Essex Police spokeswoman said the crash survivor was 'stable and satisfactory.'

Fire crews from Harlow and Stansted were called to put out the flames and recover the trapped victims.
