BEKONSCOT model village is once again under the shadow of the developers after an amended planning application threatens to dwarf the tranquil, popular attraction.

The village in Beaconsfield will open its doors for the new season next month, and will offer visitors a wide range of improvements.

But Barry Newman, public relations manager at the village, is worried about the latest planning application for a block of six two-bedroom flats adjacent to the village.

The application comes just six months after a similar proposal for a block of nine flats was turned down by South Bucks District Council.

Mr Newman said: "We were very much opposed to the application last summer for a three-storey block of nine bedroom flats in Warwick Road.

"We will not object until we have seen what is happening there and until I see if the objection would be valid."

He added: "We will be looking into it and if it causes a visual obstruction for the model village we will obviously object."

The model village has added some scenes to several of its displays for the new season, including some archers and maypole dancers.

The entrance to the village has been completely remodelled, and there is a new Cotswold-style wall around the perimeter of the site, and the ride-on railway has also been improved.

Mr Newman added: "We are really looking forward to the new season. Last year we had record numbers in through the gates and we hope to have another good year."

The model village will be reopening its doors on February 9, and admission prices are £4.50 for adults and £2.75 for children aged from three to 15.
