A COUPLE who met at university, Aidan Williams and Lara Akers-Douglas, were married in a DIY community ceremony, with contributions from family and friends, at Afton Park apple orchard, Freshwater.
The bridegroom, a GP, is the son of Grahame Williams, of Houghton-Le-Spring, near Sunderland, and Gloria Williams, of Newcastle.
The bride, a clinical psychologist, is the daughter of Adrian Akers-Douglas, of Toulouse, France, and Penny Douglas, of Limassol, Cyprus. The bride wore a "birdsong" dress and carried a bouquet made by her neighbours, using flowers from the couple’s allotment.
She was attended by Elidh Stewart, who wore a green Grecian-style dress.
The best man was David Blane.
Following a reception at Afton Park, during which guests donned wellies in the rain and mud, the couple honeymooned in Paris.
Deputy superintendent registrar Jane Ackrill and deputy registrar Jean Joshua officiated.
The couple will live in East Cowes.
