Village centre enhancement works in Radlett are on course to be finished this month.

Stuart Jukes, principal project engineer in the Hertsmere Highways Partnership, said the works, which began in July last year, had been going "quite smoothly".

Earlier delays at Park Road, caused by BT engineers rebuilding roadside boxes, were largely compensated by spells of good weather recently.

In the coming weeks, the road will be painted red on the southern approach to the village at Cobden Hill -- as part of a gateway feature aimed at slowing traffic down before it reaches a built-up area.

Works on the northern gateway feature next to Goodyers Avenue are now complete and the road awaits the red paint.

Further into the village, highways engineers report works on the footpath on the eastern side of Watling Street between The Drive and Park Road -- including lining up and levelling -- are now finished.

Improvements to the carriageway in Radlett's main shopping area were completed before Christmas.

Now work is set to begin on the pavement on the eastern side of Watling Street between Station Approach and Shenley Hill.

Works are well underway on the replacement footbridge linking the Newberries Parade service road to the northern end of Newberries car park.

Engineers report the old bridge has been demolished and foundations have been placed for the new structure. Work on the new bridge is set to begin at the end of this month.

The former Tesco store car park in Furzehill Road, Borehamwood, will be closed until late summer.

In a statement issued by Derek Pitt, parking services manager in the Hertsmere Highways Partnership, it was said the car park was being shut to allow redevelopment of the former supermarket and public car park to be carried out.

Alternative town centre parking can be found in Clarendon Road, Brook Road and Hertsmere Civic Offices in Elstree Way.
