NOMINATIONS have opened for this year’s IW Sports Achievement Awards.

The annual event recognises outstanding achievement or service among sportsmen and women of all ages on the IW.

Susie Sheldon, chair of the IW Sports Foundation, which organises the awards, said: “Putting forward a nomination is acknowledging in public, outside of the confines of a club, the success a member or team has achieved, or the contribution a volunteer or officer has made to the progress of the club.

“The sports reports published each week in the County Press show there is much to proclaim but there are also many unsung heroes.

“We would like to see as many sports and clubs as possible represented in the nominations.”

Schools can also be nominated, with an award for the primary school which has done the most to promote sport and physical activity, alongside the best new sports project in a secondary school.

Nominations, which close on January 10, will be judged by an independent panel and all nominees will be awarded a certificate.

The finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony at Medina Theatre on March 22.

Nomination forms are available from www.iowsports.org or e-mail info@iowsports.org.
