THERE were mixed fortunes for the IW's Vectis Warriors inline hockey team on their return to competitive action after nearly ten years.
Warriors got off to the perfect start by beating Bordon Roller 26-0 in their opening match.
Ben THOMAS-HART got the scoring under way and more goals followed from Alan JONES, James EKLUND (two), Rowan SALTER, Dave DOWNER, Paul HART, Ricky ATTRILL and Damon LARTER (two).
Warriors added more goals to register a comprehensive victory, although they were brought back down to earth in their second match against Furndown Falcons.
Both teams started strongly but last year's runners-up took a 3-0 lead, before LARTER scored to close the gap.
However, Furndown hit back and Warriors ended up losing 11-2, with JONES scoring their other goal.
Player coach Eklund said: “We played well as a team and fitness seemed to be the only thing that let us down but this will only improve over the season.
“Things are looking very positive going forward.
“We have a good range of players in our squad that all contribute in different ways, it’s a really good mix.”
