GURNARD Primary School took a team of 12 talented youngsters to the final of the Hampshire Indoor Athletics Finals — and they didn’t disappoint, by coming third, one of the best-ever results for an Island primary school.
Competing against the top 16 primary schools in Hampshire, Gurnard’s team did the relay, a sprint and two field events on the day.
All the children produced brilliant efforts, with most winning or coming a close second in their heats.
Event organisers commented it had been one of the best results ever from an Island school.
Gurnard’s PE co-ordinator, Sam Lines, said: “We went over with the intention of doing our best. To come third was above anything we’d hoped for. “I’m so proud of the children for their team-work and effort to achieve this.”
