A TALENTED teenage athlete from the Isle of Wight won a clutch of gold medals at recent swimming championships.

Lottie James, of Totland, who represents Bournemouth Collegiate’s swimming academy and trains with the West Wight Swim Club, took part in the Portsmouth Easter Meet and won gold in the 50m breaststroke and silver in the 100m breaststroke.

If that wasn’t great enough, the 17 year old followed her success up at the Swim Bournemouth Spring Meet weekend gala, where she gained a further six gold medals.

These were for 100m and 200m individual medley, 50m and 100m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle. Lottie also won a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly.

During the event, Lottie swam personal bests in the 50m breaststroke, in a time of 34.40, and a personal best in the 100m breaststroke, posting 1.13.86.

Lottie, supported by the Isle of Wight Council’s Talented Athlete Scheme and sponsored by Wightlink, is currently studying for her A-levels and said she aims to gain good enough qualifying times to represent the Isle of Wight at the Island Games in Gibraltar next year.
