WORLD class competition is taking place at the London Capital and Finance Osborne Horse Trials this morning.

The world's leading event rider, Great Britain's Oliver Townend, is holding first and second positions after dressage in the Grand Prix class for The Victoria Bowl.

Britain's leading lady event rider, Izzy Taylor, is lying in third place after dressage.

Isle of Wight rider, Sarah Holmes, is in 15th place after dressage with her most experienced horse, Lowhill Clover.

She said: "I was pleased with him...there is a huge atmosphere here and it does light the horses up, so it is more difficult to give a good test.

"We are really looking forward to the jumping and cross-country this afternoon and will do our best."

The riders will each compete in showjumping and cross-country this afternoon to decide the winner.

RESULTS:

1 Oliver Townend (Cillnabradden Evo) 24.1, 2 Oliver Townend (Cooley SRS II) 25.10, 3 Izzy Taylor (Impromptu II) 26.0, 15 Sarah Holmes (Lowhill Clover) 32.0.

UPDATE 1:45pm:

Sarah Holmes has moved up into 12th place in the Grand Prix at the London Capital and Finance Osborne Horse Trials today.

Sarah jumped a clear round in the showjumping phase on Lowhill Clover to move up three places.

She had one heart-stopping moment just before the first fence, when the horse's concentration momentarily lapsed, but Sarah pressed on to take a clear round.

Five other riders had showjumping faults, but the lead at the top has remained the same, with Oliver Townend in first and second place and Izzy Taylor in third.

If yesterday is anything to go by, there is still all to play for in the cross-country phase this afternoon.
