SANDOWN 0, WHITECROFT & BARTON SPORTS 6
APPALLING weather seemed to suit W&B’s slick, attacking style of play, with Matt Evans bagging a superb hat-trick against Sandown in this Harwoods Saturday league Division 1 clash yesterday.
The league leaders opened the scoring with a Harry Ovnik diving header on 22 minutes.

Two minutes later, they doubled their advantage with a so-called ‘perfect’ own goal — a defender’s bullet header past helpless keeper, Jack Powell.
Freddie Knowles, in electric form, struck the third from just inside the penalty area, and Evans made it four just before the interval with a well-struck volley after some head tennis from a corner.

At 4-0 down, the game was over as a contest for Sandown against the very well-drilled visitors, but they never let their heads go down.
However, relentless W&B pressure told and Knowles put Evans through one-on-one with the keeper and he steered the ball well into the far corner on 69 minutes.

The sixth came on 76 minutes. W&B keeper Gareth True hit a ‘route one’ long ball, which found its way to Evans who poked it neatly into the corner past the advancing keeper to complete the rout.
