A MESSY Church fun day, organised by Churches Together in West Wight, was a huge success.

Children of all ages joined in the free entertainment on Colwell Common.

They enjoyed gladiators, sumo wrestling, face-painting, mini traction engine rides, football and the stocks.

There were also plenty of games with sack races, egg and spoon and water bombing.

Pam Bird, one of the team leaders of the event, said: "We are trying to show God's love to the people of the West Wight.

"It was a fabulous day with free entertainment with grandparents, parents and their children all having a good time together."

There was also a toddlers' area, craft tent, Prayer tent and refreshments.

Comperes and DJs for the afternoon were Dan Wells, CTWW youth worker and Chris Reddecliff of Youth for Christ.

Eight churches helped to set-up and organise the event — Colwell Baptist; All Saints, Freshwater; Freshwater Methodist; St Agnes, Freshwater Bay; Christ Church, Totland; St Saviour's, Totland; St James', Yarmouth and Hope Church, Freshwater Bay; St Swithin's, Thorley, and the recently-formed Kerith Church, Freshwater.
