TAKEAWAY cartons, junk food wrappers and what appear to be nitrous oxide canisters have been strewn around one of the Isle of Wight's favourite beauty spots.

Fed up with anti-social litter louts trashing Carisbrooke Castle, dog walker Louise Howell sent these pictures to the County Press to show people the extent of the problem.

She snapped the photos yesterday (Wednesday) while walking her dog, Maisy, in the field between the castle and the viewpoint car park next to The Priory.

"I walk round the castle every day which, until recently, was really enjoyable," said beauty salon owner Louise, 30, of Clatterford Road, Carisbrooke.

"But the amount of people going up there and leaving litter, even leaving empty gas canisters, is completely unacceptable."

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is commonly used as a recreational drug.

Louise said: "I like to think people see our Island as a welcoming place, we are good natured people, but something needs to be done.

"Carisbrooke Castle is such a beautiful place and it infuriates me that people are so disrespectful. It's not hard to take your rubbish home.

"It's really frustrating, because I don't know what to do about it. I hoped by calling the County Press people would realise how bad it is."
