CARAVAN owners at St Helens Holiday Park have been told they must quit the site by December 31 to pave the way for site improvements in a move that repeats controversial plans at Rookley Country Park last year.

A letter seen by the County Press says they have less than four months to leave the site at and find new homes for their static vans.

The park's operators, Island View Holidays - part of Aria Resorts - say they are not renewing annual licences as they need to make substantial improvements to the site.

The move is part of an investment plan for sites across the Island which include Rookley Country Park, The Bay at Colwell and Priory Bay Hotel.

Owners at Rookley Country Park were faced with the same situation 12 months ago, prompting an intervention from the Island's MP, Bob Seely, who called for more rights for static caravan owners.

Aria resorts are offering a 20 year lease to owners if they move to Rookley as part of an exchange programme.

They are also offering a package of up to £1,500 to transport each unit to another site of choice but this option needs to be agreed by October 31.
