From H. F. Mawby, Newport:

I have seen some sense at last. What I mean by this is letters suggesting we have a bridge over the Medina. Having to drive to Ryde a couple of times in the week, I am amazed by all the traffic coming into Newport when I drive along, usually at 7.30am to 8.30am.

The traffic is held up anywhere from Harwoods Garage all the way into Newport. A bridge, I am sure, would improve this. Let’s forget having a bridge or underpass to the mainland.

You could turn off at the East Cowes road and rejoin somewhere over the bridge at Stag Lane or Artic Road in Cowes.

Forget about the floating bridge. Keep it going if wanted by the holidaymakers who would really enjoy it but I am sure nobody would miss the floating bridge anyway.
