The team at Cantina Ventnor have another feather in their chef's hats — a glowing review in the foodlovers' bible, the independent Good Food Guide 2019.

The 24-cover cafe/restaurant in the high street had previously made it to The Guardian's Top 100 Places To Have Breakfast and the Cantina breakfast menu has again been praised.

The Good Food Guide inspectors said: "This small hidden gem is frequented by locals in the know.

"The menu is interesting and changes regularly. Go for the all-day brunch — shakshuka with flat bread is a favourite — or the hearty seafood stew.

"It’s worth a visit for the homemade bread alone. Daytime only."

Cantina was opened five years ago by German-born chef Klaus Kuhnke.

Klaus said: "I wanted to create a friendly, neighbourhood cafe, serving imaginative, tasty food.

"I am very proud of my team of seven, all from Ventnor, who share my passion for great food and great service."

This year Klaus and his team opened a second restaurant in Ventnor. Stripped, a converted bank, serves house-made burgers and pizzas from 5pm to late, seven days a week.

The Good Food Guide has appeared annually since 1951. The new edition lists six Island establishments: Cantina, The Little Gloster, Thompson's, Heima, The Oyster Store, and The Garlic Farm Restaurant.
