PLANS for a cul-de-sac of 12 new homes in Gunville will go before the Isle of Wight Council planning committee on Tuesday (30).

The application, for land adjacent to 255 Gunville Road, Newport, is recommended for conditional permission.

It involves the construction of 12 dwellings and garages, formation of new vehicular access, associated roadway and pavement, plus landscaping.

The application site is agricultural land of approximately 0.7 hectares in area, located to the west of Gunville Road, to the south of 255 Gunville Road (an existing bungalow) and to the north of Gunville Stream and bridge and Ash Lane.

The proposed housing would comprise a mix of three detached four-bed houses, six semi-detached three-bed houses, and three terrace two-bed houses.

No objections were raised by third parties, although 20 comments were submitted by local residents.

Their concerns included overdevelopment, ecological concerns and the impact on the stream, flood risk and drainage/sewer capacity, traffic generation and access, and potential devaluing of neighbouring properties.

The planning committee meeting takes place at County Hall at 4pm on Tuesday (30).
