AN historic tram is once again on public display on the Isle of Wight more than 90 years after it was last used to transport visitors.

The 1889 Island-built Pollard tram used to work on Ryde Pier and was subsequently stored by the Isle of Wight Council.

It was officially handed over to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway by council leader, Cllr Dave Stewart, and will now be on permanent display.

Steam railway general manager Peter Vail said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to both display and allow our visitors access to this important piece of Island transport history.

"We are grateful to the Isle of Wight Council who shared our vision and desire to again let the public enjoy this wonderful exhibit."
