CHILDREN at Carisbrooke Primary School made a poignant model of a First World War soldier for Remembrance this year.

Class 4 Carter created the model of William Buckett, based on a local case study of an Isle of Wight soldier of that name who served in the war.

The model was centre stage during worship on Friday and was the location for the laying of the wreath. The children also made some special poppies for an art installation that formed a beautiful backdrop.

The model, poppy art installation, and a book of poems written by the pupils, have been moved to Newport Minster for the run up to Remembrance Sunday.

At the school's collective worship assembly, the children presented a number of readings and sang three songs, as well as observing the minute's silence.
