The Isle of Wight Ukulele Festival is back — and takes place this weekend.

Based in Newport, mainly at Quay Arts, the festival offers three days of performances showcasing the versatile instrument.

The first Isle of Wight Ukulele Festival was held in the summer of 2016.

This year, artists from the Island and beyond will perform everything from traditional ukulele sounds to classical music to jazz.

The Friday evening jam and open mic starts tonight at 6.30pm at Quay Arts, and is open to ticket holders and non-ticket holders — although space is limited to pre-booking is recommended. Pick up your uke or head along in good voice.

There is a fringe stage on Saturday morning, running alongside a workshop programme, and on Sunday there is another round of workshops and a WW1 commemoration event.

Workshops will cover all sorts of things, from vocal technique and harmony, flamenco instrumental ukulele, songwriting, rock 'n' roll, plucking techniques — even beginners hula dancing.

Another highlight will be the Dance the Night Away party on Saturday evening, featuring JC Grimshaw's band, The Dance Preachers.

Over the weekend, look out for appearances by Martyn ‘Eek’ Cooper, the Yoko Mainwaring Experience, Pete Moss, Matthew Quilliam, Opera-lele, Danilo Vignola (who is flying in from Rome), Plastic Jeezus, Simon Fernand, AD Cooke, the Hedge Inspectors, JC Grimshaw and Jukebox Jazz.
