A LARGE number of tools were stolen from St George's School, Newport on Monday night.

The tools, which include a petrol lawn mover, a leaf blower, a hedge trimmer and strimmer, a screwfix shredder and a pressure washer, were used by the students in their vocational learning programmes to develop vital life skills and to promote their independence and confidence.

One of the staff commented on Facebook: "As you can imagine, we are devastated."

Staff at the school are urging Islanders to keep a lookout for any of these items being sold or offered to the public.

This is one of a string of thefts on the Isle of Wight over the past few weeks.
