FROM Yorkshire to Havenstreet, it's been quite a trip for the Isle of Wight Steam Railway's new commercial manager.

Richard Hale, who has moved to the Island with his family, has joined the team at the railway, where he will drive the commercial side of the business.

He previously held a similar role at Kirklees Light Railway, near Huddersfield, and has a background in retail management.

Sixteen applicants were considered but it was Richard's enthusiasm and creativity that impressed the interview panel.

General manager Peter Vail said: "The railway’s progress over recent years has been particularly pleasing. To sustain this level of growth, it has been essential to increase our resource.

"In Richard we have recruited a manager with an ability to drive us to another, higher level. These are very exciting times."

Richard said: "I’m very proud and excited to have been appointed to this role, it has been a long held vision to relocate to the Isle of Wight and I’m thrilled to have successfully demonstrated my abilities to the panel.

"I very much look forward to making a positive contribution to the future of the railway."
