A DEVELOPMENT at Rookley Country Park has resulted in charitable donations to Mountbatten and the British Heart Foundation.

About 20 cottages full of goodies were set to be demolished in the development, but the team at the park decided to make some good from the demolition and give the furniture to Isle of Wight causes.

Charlotte Pratt, admin manager at the park, said: "There's nothing wrong with the furniture so we decided to ask Mountbatten and the British Heart Foundation if they would like to collect the furniture for their charities.

"We chose Mountbatten as it's such an Island based cause, and the British Heart Foundation keeps all the furniture on the Island."

Nigel Hartley, Mountbatten chief executive, said: "We are very grateful for this generous donation of furniture and kitchen appliances from the housing units that are being refurbished.

"I am sure these donations of such high quality will be very well received by customers at our Mountbatten furniture warehouse on the Riverway industrial estate, raising a significant amount of money to support Islanders and their families who are facing death, dying and bereavement."
