AN ISLE of Wight pub has made it on the list for the top ten dog friendly pubs in the South East.

This is the third time DogBuddy.com has opened the nominations for the best places to have a pint with your best friend, and The Sun Inn, Calbourne, has nabbed the tenth most canine catering pub in the region.

They introduced the dog-friendly pub awards to recognise pubs that truly embrace 'paw power' and welcome four legged customers.

Kate Goldson, landlady at the Inn, said: "I'm elated. I'm very happy all the work we do to make people feel welcome with dogs has made a difference."

The Sun Inn offers ice-cream for dogs and even doggy meals for their canine friends, as well as placing dog bowls inside and outside and offering dog treats.

Kate said whenever needed, she will also look after a customer's dog. Once, a customer had to go to hospital so the pup stayed at the pub with the staff.

During an England World Cup match, one good boy got too scared to stay in the pub so Kate took him away to a quiet place.

The Sun Inn is the only Island pub to make the top ten on DogBuddy.com's list of paw friendly pubs.
