THERE are wacky ways of raising funds for your child's school, and then there are really wacky ways of raising funds for your child's school.

One of the mums at Lanesend Primary School in Cowes, Anglea Freebrey, 46, hit on the idea of raising money for books at the school by taking part in a crazy literary challenge of reading in unusual places, and asked the children to suggest where she could do it.

Youngsters could not wait to come up with odd places that Angela could curl up with a good book including, in the shower, on top of the school minibus, in a cardboard box, spinning on a roundabout, on Tennyson Down or even, like former mayor of London, Boris Johnson, suspended from a zipwire.

Other suggestions included reading a book to pigs, dancing, in a shark costume and even in a sink.

Altogether the reading marathon, dubbed 'Challenge Angela' raised £450 after she completed all 37 reading challenges in total.

Angela said: "I'd love for you to say a big thank you to the children and grown ups who suggested reading challenges, they were a lot of fun to do and have made me realise that I am braver and crazier than I thought.”

Headteacher, Caroline Sice, said “I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of Angela in giving up her time to set herself this challenge and raise money for our school. We will buy some lovely new reading books.”
