FRESHWATER Independent Lifeboat has been honoured by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS), and awarded an Honorary Associate status in recognition of its significant contribution to its work for the society.

The award was presented at Winchester Cathedral and will be framed and placed within the Freshwater boathouse.

Coxswain Tony Moore said: "It's an achievement for all the volunteers who have made this possible from the fundraisers to the ground crew and the crew itself.

"The all put in so much hard work behind the scenes and thoroughly deserve the accolade."

Freshwater Independent Lifeboat has been saving lives since 1972 and is run entirely by volunteers.

The station covers an area up to 30 miles off shore from Hurst Point to St Catherine's Point.

The team also assists the Coastguard and neighbouring services, both independent and RNLI whenever possible.
