THE ISLE of Wight Met Service has issued a yellow weather warning with a spell of gale and severe gale force winds and heavy rain expected this evening (Friday).

Another storm surge and some very large waves along coastal parts of the Island is also expected with wind gusts of up to 50mph inland and gusts of up to 70mph on the coast in the most exposed areas.

Spells of heavy rain will accompany the wind with 12-15mm of rain falling widely with the potential of 25mm in some places giving a lot of surface spray on the roads and some minor flooding in areas usually prone to flooding.

There will also be a lot of leaf-fall and this is likely to give some very slippery conditions on some of the roads.

As well as this it is expected there will be some very large waves around the coasts and also another storm surge of just over 0.5 meters. This surge combined with the spring tides may give some minor flooding in northern parts of the island as well as large over-topping waves in western, southern and eastern parts of the island during the high tide period.
