GURNARD has been yarnbombed with knitted poppies.

It is not the first time the village's busy knitting group has decorated Gurnard with their makes, but it is the first time they have done so for Remembrance.

The idea really took off as the community came together to create more than 1,000 poppies, which adorned the hedges, bins, monuments and benches.

The clocktower was also transformed, with poppies made from silk leftover in the factories that makes the poppy badges.

It has transformed the village, in a fitting tribute to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Knitter Pauline Rippon even made a little cenotaph, complete with a soldier, sailor, airman and nurse.

Lots of the poppies have been sold to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

The knitting group meets at Gurnard Press each Thursday from 2pm to 4pm.
