A STREAM of visitors at an open house party helped Doris Osborne celebrate her 100th birthday.

An all-day-long tea party was enjoyed by Doris, with her friends and family, including son Martin Bond who lives with his mother at their East Cowes home.

There were three birthday cakes, including one donated by Waitrose when the staff heard their regular customer was celebrating such a milestone.

Doris was born at 24a Victoria Road, Newport, on November 6, 1918, and went to Barton Infants then Nodehill School.

She became an apprentice at Burton Stores in Newport but at the start of the Second World War she went to Saunders Roe to help sort the crates of aeroplane parts.

She married Tom Bond and had their son, but she was left a young single mum when Tom died in the war.

She later went to work at Dabells and found happiness again with Malcolm Osborne, who became her second husband in 1953.

Mrs Osborne was chairman of the NSPCC for many years, chair of East Cowes Vectis Townswomen's Guild, member of Osborne WI and Whippingham WI, and volunteered as a tour guide at St Mildred's Church, Whippingham.

She still cooks every day for herself and her son, and enjoys watching tennis, reading, and looking out for the wildlife in the garden.
