THE teams at Specsavers in Newport and Ryde turned back time to raise money to support people with sight loss.

To celebrate Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB)’s 150th anniversary, the Specsavers stores hosted a vintage tea party.

The store was decorated with bunting and balloons, tea and coffee were offered to customers and cakes were baked in support of the event during National Eye Health Week from September 24 to 30.

Staff even dressed up in 1950s style costumes to really get into the swing of things.

With more than 100 customers attending on the day and enjoying the tea party, £50 was raised for the RNIB.

The money raised will go towards providing free audiobooks, offering essential advice and support as well as ensuring the RNIB’s helpline can continue to run and make a difference to people’s lives.

Tim Kidd, ophthalmic director from Specsavers Newport and Ryde said: "We want to say a huge thank you to all our customers for coming out to support our vintage tea and the incredible work of the RNIB.

"The day was filled with fun and proved to be a huge success. By the end of the day, all the cakes had sold out."

Specsavers joined forces with RNIB in 2016 to raise awareness of the importance of getting your eyes tested. Experts recommend people should get their eyes checked every two years.
