HERE'S a rare item for sale for you — providing you have a spare £350,000.

The very first numberplate issued on the Isle of Wight, DL1, has come up for auction on the website regtransfers.co.uk — and the price is non-negotiable.

The plate is the most expensive for sale on the site and does not include VAT in the price.

The next most expensive number plate for sale on the site is also an Island one DL12 — and can be yours for the relatively modest price of just £29,995.

However, it is unlikely the DL1 plate, first issued on the Island in 1903, will be bought by somebody locally.

It is far more likely the plate will be snapped-up by a celebrity with DL initials.

Those with enough money could include the award-winning Homeland and Wolf Hall actor, Damian Lewis, or perhaps former footballer, Denis Law could be tempted.

The most expensive number plate ever sold was '25 O' which went for £518,000.

It was bought by Ferrari dealer John Collins in 2014.

The plate is now thought to take pride of place on a Ferrari 250SWB once owned by Eric Clapton, worth around £10million.
