AN ESTATE agent who smashed windows in a fit of drunken rage, caused thousands of pounds of damage to businesses in Newport.

Brody Holland, 23, who lived in East Cowes at the time of the offence, but now lives in Manchester, pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal damage at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Tuesday).

Holland, who was drunk and angry, struck out at windows on Lower St James' Street, causing £2,557.94 of damage on August 12, Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court.

CCTV followed Holland to down the road to Halfords, where he was arrested.

He had caused £1,973.94 worth of damage to Brighthouse, £380 of damage to Ladbrokes and £204 to Summerlilly Flowers.

Holland, who has no previous convictions, told police during interview that he was stressed out and he takes his anger out on things rather than people.

He said he could not remember why he was so angry.

For Holland, Oscar Vincent, said this behaviour was entirely out of character and Holland's stress was not handled very well.

Magistrates ordered Holland to pay back the businesses for the damage caused and fined him £260.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.
