A BABY and toddler music session was held at a care home for the elderly — with delightful results.

Brighstone Grange was the unusual setting for the music workshop, and the residents loved joining in with the children.

Organiser Emma Theunissen, who is the social activities co-ordinator at Brighstone Grange, explained: "My background is in providing this type of thing for children, so I thought why not bring adults and children together? I don't know why we keep young and old so separate in everything, it makes no sense to do that.

"Everyone absolutely loved joining in. A lot of our residents have dementia and after the workshop we noticed a big difference in them for the rest of the day.

"One lady had had a bad couple of days but this really made her day. It was all very positive and the residents have been talking about the children ever since, they got so much from it."

The workshop was provided by Music Explorers. The sessions will run monthly, with the next one on December 11.

They are open to children age 0-5 years, but must be booked in advance through Music Explorers.
