Hundreds of Bembridge residents paid their respects on Remembrance Day, with a service at the village war memorial.

The service was led by the Rev Dr Amanda Bloor, vicar of Bembridge, with The Last Post and Reveille played by Irene Burrows.

Singing was led by an ensemble from the Bembridge Village Band and the Choir of Holy Trinity Church.

Sally Davies, church warden at Holy Trinity Church, said: “The sun shone and the wind blew on this special village gathering, as we remembered the fallen and paid our respects for their bravery.

“The village is adorned with beautiful knitted and crocheted poppies all made, with love, by villagers.”

Wreaths were laid for the Royal British Legion by Mervyn Prichard, the IW Royal British Legion Riders by Caroline Clarke, Holy Trinity Church by Sally Davies, Bembridge Parish Council by Keith Fagan, the scouts and cubs by Jacob Swan, Bembridge RNLI by John Keyworth, in memory of Mr C. Pemberton-Barrett by Jan Yeats, in memory of Andrew Swallow by Peter Swallow, for the Townswomen’s Guild by Phil Liddiard, Bembridge Windmill WI by Sally Pizey, and St Michael’s Catholic Church by Peter Hudson.

Standards were presented by Primrose Bareham for the sea scouts, Sophie McCallum for the cubs, Oatis Ripley for the beavers, Alicia Gidley for the brownies, Frankie Magnus for the rainbows, Christopher O’Brian with the Union flag, and Abraham Farnsworth for the Royal British Legion.

The Roll of Honour and Exhortation was read by Lt Col Mike Samuelson.
