AN ISLE of Wight charity is offering free hypnotherapy sessions to people affected by cancer.

The Wessex Cancer Trust has teamed up with practitioner Maire Reeves to offer hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) sessions at its centre in Lugley Street, Newport.

Maire has 36 years’ experience in the field. She is a qualified NLP trainer and master practitioner, and a hypnotherapist.

She said: "NLP and hypnotherapy can help people elicit a positive state of mind and gain confidence.

"Phobias and anxieties can be treated and these treatment options can create a better understanding of relationships, especially when someone is facing or recovering from an illness like cancer or, indeed, caring for someone in this situation.

"Treatments might also help release old emotions which stop people move forward positively."

Maire offered her expertise after using the charity’s services while undergoing cancer treatment herself.

She said: "When I was diagnosed with cancer, I was told about Wessex Cancer Trust. After visiting the centre, I was given the support I needed at the time, which included use of the transport service.

"This took a lot of pressure off me as the journey can be difficult when you’re having treatment."

The new sessions will run alongside the charity’s existing free services, including counselling, befriending and complementary therapies, such as reflexology.
