A West Wight vicar who married a childhood friend, had their union blessed at a service at All Saints' Church, Freshwater, last Saturday.

Rev Leisa Potter, who is priest in charge of Yarmouth, Freshwater and Freshwater Bay, and soon to be licensed at Christ Church, Totland, and husband Colin, renewed their vows in front of family and parishioners at a service conducted by the Rev Clive Todd.

The couple grew up in Exeter and were married there three weeks ago with Rev Leisa wearing her wedding dress for the service.

Rev Leisa, who was licensed in the West Wight in April, said: "We grew up together and our parents were neighbours in the same street. We went to the same schools and had the same friends.

"On Mothering Sunday I attended a church service back home where I bumped into Colin again. We arranged a date and it just went on from there."

The couple live at The Rectory, Freshwater. Colin has worked in the voluntary sector but has taken a career break during his move to the Island.

A packed church attended the service with refreshments served afterwards.

Flowers were arranged by the West Wight Floral Art Society.

Organist was Chris MacKay and the trumpet was played by John Smith.
