A SCOUTS group which fell victim to thoughtless vandalism last month has received generous donations from concerned Islanders.

Vandals smashed the skylight windows at Shanklin's Scout Hut meaning the Scout group had to use their hard-earned money to do repairs, rather than on their ongoing refurbishment project.

Several Scouts spoke of their disappointment and sadness over the incident.

At the time, Ali Burt, district commissioner, said: "It's such a shame their hard earned cash will now be used to repair the building."

However, the tides of fortune have shifted for the Shanklin Scouts as Linda Callum and Liz Tizard donated money to cover the cost of the repairs to the vandalised windows.

Linda is a local business woman who read about the situation in the County Press and Liz is a member of 1st Newport Scouts.

Vik Mann, scout leader, said: "With these unexpected donations, the money raised during October keep our hut overhaul on track. We can't thank Liz and Linda enough."

Steve Goodyear, scout chairman, said: "I would like to say a massive thank you to Linda and Liz for their generous donations. It is important we keep the building up to date and open for the young people of the Isle of Wight."
