A WOMAN walking the coast of Britain has arrived on the Isle of Wight this week.

Elizabeth Wickes, known as Beth, is walking the coastline to raise funds and awareness for the RNLI and the Association of Lowland Search and Rescue.

The 50 year old started at Westminster in September and hopes to walk from lifeboat station to lifeboat station, keeping to the coast as much as possible, and arrived at Yarmouth on Wednesday.

Beth said: "The Island is stunning — I can see why it's popular with walkers. Despite the awful windy and wet weather yesterday from Yarmouth to Compton, it was still a beautiful walk.

"I can only imagine how stunning the Isle of Wight is in good weather."

Beth said she decided to support the RNLI as the UK is an Island nation and their service is so important. She said: "They don't get any support from the government and I felt as I was doing a coastal walk, it seemed a natural paring."

Her idea to also support the Association of Lowland Search and Rescue came after watching a documentary about missing people. She said: "I always thought it was only Police that conducted searches, so I was surprised to find they work closely with teams made up of volunteers."

Beth plans to walk the circumference of the Island and will be here until next Wednesday. To follow her journey or donate to her cause, visit her blog or social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.
