A LECTURE exploring the significance and symbolism of the colour gold in great works of art takes place next week.

The Arts Society Isle of Wight will host the lecture, As Good As Gold, by Alexandra Epps, at Quay Arts next Thursday (December 13).

A society spokesperson said: "Experience the story of gold and its significance and symbolism within the history of art. Gold, the colour of the sun, of divinity, status, love. Creations ancient and contemporary, sacred and profane — all glitters is certainly gold."

Doors open at 6.30pm for drinks and supper, the lecture will start at 7.30pm.

Tickets will be available on the door. The lecture is free for members and students.
