ALL things Victorian and festive were celebrated at Ventnor Heritage Centre during the Ventnorville celebrations at the weekend.

It was the first time the volunteers who run the centre had put on a special event to coincide with the town's annual festivities — and they deemed it a huge success.

A Victorian Family Christmas featured living history group The Vectis Victorians, entertainment from the Undercliff Singers and an appearance by the Solent Veteran Cycling Club.

The volunteers all dressed as Victorians and provided opportunities to play traditional games, dip in the bran tub, drink Wassail punch and count old money.

Volunteer co-ordinator Linda Chester said: "This event was a way of raising the profile of the museum and encouraging people to come in and see what we do here, and we succeeded in that.

"We were thrilled as we had a tremendous response and we welcomed visitors from all over the country and some Ventnor residents who had never been in before."
