A NEW ferry, built by the Island's own shipbuilders, has been launched into the ocean.

Wight Shipyard successfully launched their Twin City ferry on Wednesday. The original launch had been delayed due to high winds last week.

A crane lifted the 38m ferry into the Medina.

Wight Shipyard chief executive, Jo Daly, said: "I am pleased the launch went to schedule.

"The Twin City Ferry will now undergo commissioning of the systems and engines. The vessel will commence a two week sea trials period prior to being handed over to her new owners later this month.

"Wight Shipyard colleagues have build a vessel we, and the Island, can be justly proud of. "We look forward to a secured future at Venture Quays."
