From Matt Sainsbury and all at Newport Fire Station:

Islanders have had the pleasure of seeing the Christmas tree on top of Newport Fire Station tower for more than 30 years.

It takes a lot of organising and wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of local businesses.

Without Shide Nurseries, there wouldn’t be a tree — they have kindly donated a tree for years.

The manager, Peter, lets us walk around the fields at Knighton to choose the tree, which is then cut down and delivered to us.

Once delivered, we work around fire service incidents and the right weather conditions to enable us to put the tree up safely.

The safety aspect of displaying the tree so high and making sure everything is safe and secure is extremely important, and this is made possible by Spencer Rigging, Ace Scaffolding and M.G. Scaffolding.

Lighting the tree is also an expensive task which is kindly covered by Newport Parish Council and donations from local residents.

Thanks to them, the lights on the tree shine bright for all to enjoy.

And finally, a special thanks to  F. W. Marsh.

Without the team from the engineering company, our tree would not have a star.
