A WOMAN charged with burning down two Sandown hotels in September appeared before the Isle of Wight magistrates court this morning.

Paula Skelly, 62, was charged with arson after allegedly flicking a cigarette end from a balcony, which landed in a pile of rubbish and started the fire.

Armed police descended on a Freshwater address, following reports a man had a gun.

A 50-year-old man had to be treated by paramedics after he was tasered by the police, and arrested on suspicions of making threats to kill.

It's been a busy day for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. No sooner had they returned to the station from a fire in Cranmore, they were sent back out to St Mary's Hospital this afternoon.

However, after carrying out checks at the hospital, it turned out to be a false alarm.

Police were also called to a crash in Carisbrooke this afternoon after a car collided with two parked vehicles.
