PUPILS often dream of ruling the roost and taking over the school but for a lucky pair of six year olds from Northwood Primary School, the dream became reality last week.

As part of the school's fundraising efforts at their Christmas fair, one raffle prize with a twist was the chance to be headteacher for the day.

Poppy Swift, six, drew the lucky ticket and chose Charlie Thistlewood, also six, to be her deputy.

Headteacher, Sarah Hussey, said: "I was a bit nervous but they didn't abuse their power. It ended up being quite nice to sit back, drink some hot chocolate and eat party rings."

The duo were given a list of jobs for the day, which included taking school assembly, observing classes to make sure everyone was behaving themselves and even teaching a year six lesson — with lots of hot chocolate and party rings in between.

"They did really well," said Miss Hussey. "They enjoyed the morning and taking the celebration assembly, but by the time the afternoon came around they got a bit bored.

"I think they realised being headteacher wasn't as exciting as they thought it was."
