YOUNG achievers in track and field had their achievements marked with awards at the Isle of Wight Athletics Club presentation evening at Sandown Bay CE School.

From young quad kids to senior athletes, a record number of club records were broken — celebrated in an awards evening attended by 160 members and parents, compered by Ray Scovell.

The team managers for Quad Kids, cross-country and Wessex League track and field, presented the awards and medals to their team members.

Mr Scovell made mention of a number of individual highlights this year.

Among the many who excelled, Henry McLuckie was a revelation in track and field and cross-country throughout 2018.

Among all the many races he performed superbly in, the teenager broke Island records, which included the mile, which had stood for 13 years, and one for 3,000m, which stood 17 years.

The Derek Frost Award went to Frankie Witty, who, despite having had several operations on his legs since 2016, keeps returning to the sport.

Jackson Hill, who won the 5km junior parkrunner award.

The Spirit of the Club award was presented to Justine Crumplin, the Quad Kids team manager and leading coach of the youngest group of children, aged seven to ten years.

All the other the awards were presented by Sarah Gardiner, England Athletics Club's support manager for Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Sussex and the Channel Islands.
