SHANKLIN’S Co-op has raised more than £17,000 in the past year — and every penny goes to Isle of Wight charities.

Thanks to the Co-op Causes Initiative, Daisy Chains children’s charity, Rylstone Chalet Restoration and the Friends of Shanklin Theatre have all received some of the money.

The money is raised through the Co-op’s membership card scheme, so every time the community shops at the store, some of the money is put back into local good causes.

Michael Beston, vice-chairman of the Friends of Shanklin Theatre, said: “The money awarded to us from the Co-op Causes Initiative will help our on-going programme to replace and refurbish our historic but rapidly deteriorating windows.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has shopped locally at Landguard Road Co-op and supported this very worthy cause. Our thanks also to the brilliant team at our local Co-op for working with us over the past year.

“The ongoing support from the community will help restore Shanklin Theatre back to its former glory.”
