WIGHTLINK'S car ferry service between Yarmouth and Lymington is set to resume tomorrow afternoon (Sunday) after a fire in the engine room put the vessel Wight Sky out of action on Friday morning.

The fire broke out while the ferry was at Lymington and was the third time a fire had broken out on the Wight Sky in the last 15 months.

The first sailing will be at 1.15pm from Lymington, according to a tweet issued by the company.

Five mainland fire crews were called to the scene, alongside an aerial ladder platform, a specialist equipment unit, a command unit and a command support unit.

Wight Sky remains out of action while investigations continue into the cause of the engine failure.

Wightlink will only be operating a one boat service on the route as one of the ferries, Wight Sun, has developed an electrical fault this morning.
