A FLOOD alert has been issued for Lukely Brook in Newport this evening.

Residents living near the river are being recommended to take action to protect their property after the Environment Agency warned that in the last six hours, 25mm of rain has fallen at Carisbrooke, close to half a month's rain in one day.

River levels at the brook are high currently and continue to rise but grills along the brook are currently clear and free of debris.

Most of the rain has now cleared but water levels will remain high for the next couple of hours before they begin to fall.

Further rain is expected on Sunday afternoon, but without causing any flooding.

Environment Agency contractors are out in the area making sure the river is kept free of blockages and agency staff are continuing to monitor levels in the river and web camera images at grill sites. River level data at Carisbrooke and Hunny Hill can be viewed at www.Gaugemap.co.uk
