THE ISLE of Wight's ace with the arrows Keegan Brown produced an impressive first round display in darts' biggest event, the William Hill World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace, London.

The 26-year-old, of Newport, comfortably beat Karel Sedlacek, of the Czech Republic, 3-0.

The first of his six 180s helped Keegan take the opening leg, but Sedlacek won the the next two legs to threaten to take the first set.

But Keegan, a former PDC Unicorn World Youth Champion, levelled up before he came up with a sublime 11-dart finish in the deciding leg.

A 106 finish in the first leg of the second set helped Sedlacek open up a two-leg cushion.

But the Islander bounced back yet again, this time winning the deciding leg in 12 darts.

The Isle of Wight ace, who averaged an impressive 95.78 per visit to the oche, enjoyed a more comfortable third and final set, winning it 3-1 and closing it out with a 13-dart leg.

Keegan will have a much tougher game in the second round, against Jelle Klaasen, seeded 24th, during this coming Friday's evening session.

Should he beat Klaasen, Keegan will play his third round match either side of the Christmas break, with the fourth round pebncilled in for December 27-28, ahead of the quarter-finals, across two sessions on December 29.

Keegan, whose odds of winning the title have reduced from 500-1 to 300-1, is among a field of 96 players from 28 countries, with a record £2.5 million prize money on offer.
